Piombino, the second main centre of the district of Livorno after the county town, is an industrial and harbour city that in the last years has discovered a new beach and natural tourist vocation, thanks to the Golfo di Baratti and to the archaeological site of Populonia for their cultural and cooking roles that play.
Especially Piombino, with its harbour in the very city centre, is the departure point for going to the Island of Elba and other islands of the Tuscan archipelago, to Sardinia and to Corsica too.
It's possible to reach Piombino by car along the SS1 Aurelia, and by train following the Campiglia Marittima - Piombino Marittima direction after the transmittal railway connection Rome-Pisa. Piombino and the other districts of the Etruscan Coast are easily reachable thanks to Autostradale services, providing a GranTurismo coach departing from the coach station terminal of Lampugnano metro station, in Milan.
During the route, several mid stops are provided in San Giuliano, Melegnano, Lodi, Casalpusterlengo, Piacenza, and also in every tourist town of the Coast like Cecina, Marina di Bibbona, Donoratico and San Vincenzo, arriving then near to the harbour station departures of Piombino.
